Immunization & Health

Before you start school at UTSA, there are certain health-related items that must be done to protect yourself and your fellow Roadrunners. Click on each tab below to determine if these items impact you.

Meningitis Immunization

No one likes getting vaccinations, but being at risk for Meningococcal Meningitis is even less fun. If you are 21 or younger, you’ll need to submit written proof that you’ve received either the vaccination or a booster dose within the last five years before registering for classes. It’s a state law!

Note: only the quadrivalent vaccine, which protects against 4 types of meningitis (MCV4, MPSV4), will be accepted. Meningitis B vaccines do not meet the requirement.

Where can I get vaccinated?

We have a limited supply of the meningitis vaccination available which is free to UTSA students. If you are interested in receiving your vaccination at UTSA, you can schedule an appointment by calling Wellness 360 at 210-458-4142. You will need to bring a photo ID to your appointment. You can also contact one of the following to receive your vaccination:

• Your Healthcare Provider
• San Antonio Metropolitan Health District at (210) 207-8790
• Your local pharmacy (CVS, Walgreens, HEB, etc.)

How can I submit proof of vaccination?

One week after you have been admitted, you will receive an email from Med+Proctor to upload your immunization documentation. Follow the steps below and click the Med+Proctor logo to get started! Note: You will receive emails from Med+Proctor, so be sure to check any spam/junk folders. These emails are sent to your UTSA email.

1. 1. Log into Med+Proctor with your myUTSA ID and passphrase to get started.
   2. Confirm your date of birth.
   3. Review and accept the End User License Agreement so Med+Proctor can share your information with UTSA.
   4. Upload a copy of your immunization documentation. Make sure your documents are complete and legible. You will receive an email confirmation once the forms have been reviewed.
   5. Med+Proctor will review your documentation within 2 business days.

   

   How do I know if my documentation is accepted?

   • If your documentation is accepted, then your meningitis hold at UTSA will be removed within 48 hours once you receive an approval email from Med+Proctor.
   • If your documentation is incomplete, you will receive an email from Med+Proctor to log into your account. Once logged in, you will see the reason why your documentation is incomplete and will have the opportunity to upload new documentation.

   Can I be exempt?

   You are automatically exempt if you are 22 years of age or older by the first day of classes.

   Other ways to be exempt:

   • You are enrolled in a fully-online degree program through UTSA Online.
   • You are enrolled in only continuing education course or program that is less than 360 contact hours.
   • You are unable to take the vaccine because of medical reasons. Note, you must submit a letter of evidence in person or by mail from a health care provider to Wellness 360 at UTSA.
   • You are declining the vaccine due to reasons of conscience, including a religious belief. In order to receive this exemption, you must use the official Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) affidavit form. The form must be completely filled out, signed, notarized and sent to Wellness 360 at UTSA within 90 days from the date it was notarized. Only the original form will be accepted. You can submit the form by mail (Wellness 360 at UTSA, One UTSA Circle, San Antonio, TX 78249) or
     in-person (Wellness 360, Recreation & Wellness Center (RWC) 1.500)

   TB Screening/Test

   All international students are required to submit proof of Tuberculosis Screening to UTSA Wellness360 on or after March 1 for the summer or fall semesters and on or after September 1 for the spring semester.

   What documentation do I need?

   It is highly recommended that you obtain a TB blood test in your home country. Student Health Services accepts the following blood tests:

   • AQuantiFERON GOLD
   • T-Spot

   If your test result is in a language other than English, please have a translation service translate Records into English prior to submission to UTSA Wellness360.

   UTSA does not accept these tests:

   • ELISA
   • IgG
   • IgM
   • Other forms of rapid testing
   • PPD from other countries

   Consent for Treatment

   If you’re 17 or younger, we’ll need a Consent for Treatment form signed and submitted by your parent or guardian.

   Which form do I submit?

   Consent by Minor to Own Treatment Form
   If you meet the below criteria, fill out the Consent by Minor to Own Treatment Form

   • Active Duty U.S. Military
   • 16 years of age or older and live apart from your parents, managing conservator or guardian, and are managing your own finances
   • consenting to receive diagnosis and treatment of any infectious, contagious or communicable disease which is reported to the Texas Department of Health
   • an emancipated minor

   Consent by Minor to Own Treatment who Does Not have Legal Power to Consent Form
   If you do not meet any of the above criteria, submit the below Consent by Minor to Own Treatment who Does Not have Legal Power to Consent. This form must include a signature from your parent or guardian.

   Health Insurance

   The UT System requires all international students holding an F1, F2, J1 or J2 visa to maintain medical, evacuation and repatriation insurance while enrolled at any UT System institution.

   UT Student Health Insurance Plan (UT SHIP)

   The UT System SHIP is administered by Academic Health Plans with coverage provided by Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Texas. You can view the insurance benefit details on the Academic Health Plans website.
